Meeting Amanda Adams!

So, can we talk about this really quick? 


EEE!!! How exciting right!? I had seen earlier this week that Amanda Adams was going to be in my neck of the woods and I knew I had to meet her. Last night I saw on Instagram that she was at a restaurant literally down the street from my house, so I knew I had to stop  by. She is adorable. She is just as sweet and genuine and you would imagine her to be, super down to earth, and of course beautiful! Talk about an exciting evening!! 

And, if you didn't already know- I'm going to be at the Olympia this year :) Sometimes I think I'm a crazy person because it is the weekend before my wedding, but it's an opportunity I can't pass up! 

What fitness personality would YOU like to meet? Amanda was definitely on the top of my list!

Honeymoon Shoulders!

I'm so stinkin' excited, our honeymoon is booked!! We're going to beautiful Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and I couldn't be more excited.



Looks like an absolute dream! 

Okay, I have to stay here in reality for a few more months so lets talk shoulder day. 

All this week and next week my goal is to have really intense workouts with active rests and everything super setted so that calorie burns are high and I work off a little of my summer-I-love-wine-and-happy-hour fat in the ab area that seems to have appeared. I'm not havin' it and I certainly want it gone by the fourth of July which means I am so ready to kill it in the gym.

Then we did 15 minutes of cardio- my goal is to do at least 20 minutes of steady state or 12 minutes of sprints but B had a meeting this morning so we had to cut it a little short!

Sedona Snapshots

We had an amazing weekend getaway in Sedona this weekend. Met up with friends, ate amazing food, drank amazing wine and did it all in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Here are some snapshots from the weekend!













We told our server I was gluten free and she completely catered the dinner around it- G free bread and all! So great! 

Now, I have 10 days to be bikini ready again before we head to Newport Beach for the fourth of July/ our 1 year engagement anniversary! My plan? Water, clean eats, cardio after every lifting session, and lots of sleep. Bam. Can't wait. 

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Mine was definitely the buffet at our hotel... we sat at the creek for over 3 hours which meant we got to serve ourself twice- hence the two plates above that are a hodgepodge of food!

What I Ate Wednesday!

It's 8:15pm on Tuesday (leg day) and my booty is already sore! My fav! I'm really enjoying doing our own thing for a while and also really excited that we decided we'll be doing Ashley Conrads program that she just released on bodybuilding.com to get ready for our Bach/elorette party in August. It looks absolutely insane, in the best way possible. 

I think we'll finish off June doing our own thing, and then jump back into a little James Wilson for a month or so. We'll see. We're kind of on the no plan plan and I'm liking it.

Clean Chicken Stir Fry

New gym clothes = amazing workout. 

Anyone else think this is true? My mom surprised me this weekend with a whole new Lululemon outfit on Sunday (I know, awesome Mom) and I put it good use this morning. B and I did back and cardio and sprinkled some abs in for active rests. Here's what our workout looked like:

- Pull-ups 3 x 10
-Pull downs super set with seated row 3 x 10
- Underhand row (pictured below) 4 x 10
- T bar row 3 x 8
- Hyper extensions w/ 10 lb plate 3 x 10 



Yes, I really was that match-matchy at 5:45am. What can I say? When you look good, you feel good! 

And finally, here is the recipe to my chicken stir fry- sorry it took so long! 


Ingredients:
- 3-4 large chicken breasts, cubed
- 1 package mixed veggies
- 1 package broccoli slaw
- 1 T natural peanut butter
- 1/8 cup Sriracha 
- 2 tsp ginger 
- 1/4 cup low sodium Tamari 
-1/4 cup cashews (optional)


Directions:
1. Place chicken in pan and begin to cook on low. 
2. In a small bowl, combine ginger, peanut butter, sriracha, and Tamari- stir well. 
3. Pour the mixture over the chicken and continue to cook a few more minutes. 
4. Add veggies and mix everything together- cook until chicken is cooked through and veggies are tender. 
5. If adding cashews, add these just for the last minute or two.

Having it All Figured Out


FRIDAAAYYYY! WOOO!

So this week B and I have been doing our own thing in the gym, no plan, no program and I've been loving it! I love following a program, but sometimes I have to take a break and just do what I wanna do! Today we did chest and shoulders and threw in some abs too and we both walked out of the gym like "whoa" we just killed it.



I've been catching up on my fitness reading this week and started to second guess myself and what my short term plan are. Sometimes I find myself overwhelmed with all the information that is out there about health, fitness, nutrition etc. There are so many contradicting theories and they are often times fully supported by studies and personal experiences which makes it even more confusing! Can you eat carbs at night or can’t you? Can you lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously? Are supplements really necessary? How much protein is too much? Do cheat meals really rev up your metabolism? WHO KNOWS!

 I have read all the arguments for and against all the above and frankly could make a case for both sides. So what do you do? You find what works for you. You play the good old game of guess and check and see how your body responds because guess what? The reason there are even two sides to all of these questions is because at some point, both sides have worked for someone. This whole fitness journey is really nothing but a big long game of guess and check. Find out what works for you, what makes you feel good, what makes you look the way you want to look, and then run with it. Don’t listen to what other people think about what you do. Don’t change what you do just because you see someone doing it differently. 

There are very few people who have it all figured out—in fact, when it comes to your body it’s pretty hard to have it all figured out since your body constantly adapts and changes. All that means is you have to be ready to adapt and change too! I didn't just write this post for you guys, I wrote it for me too. So that I can come back to it and read it when I find myself in those moments of doubt-- I hope you will do the same!

Good Eats Old & New

Thank you for all the tips on soreness-- I stretched a lot yesterday and drank lots and lots of water and I'm feeling back to normal today. Whew! I powered through an arms and abs workout yesterday and we decided to do lots of drop sets to really fatigue the muscles. I love drop sets especially because they give you a great pump! 



I wish my arms looked like this all the time, but unfortunately they deflate after I leave the gym. One day though, they will really look like this ;) 

After our workout I had my shake and a slice of my banana bread which I haven't made in months, and I think I remember why... You cannot stop at just one slice! So good and absolutely perfect for post workout. 


Definitely going to be baking more often now, I've gotten away from it for some reason and I really miss it. Hopefully some new recipes will be concocted! 

I also had to share the dinner I made last night because it was a winner with B so that means it must have been great. It was actually really easy to make, just cooked up some lean chicken sausage that I got from Sprouts- it has no nitrates and I think is 90/10 which is pretty low for sausage. This probably isn't something I would eat multiples times a week, but definitely okay for a now and then meal. 


Anyway, I just added some mushrooms to the sausage when it was about halfway done cooking and then topped it off with my favorite Monte Bene pasta sauce. For B I used brown rice noodles and I put mine over some broccoli slaw (told you I was loving this lately). As you can see, a noodle or two may or may not have slipped into my bowl. Yay for carbs!

What I Ate Wednesday

B and I did deadlifts for the first time in a long time yesterday and I guess I forgot that dead lifts are one of those things that you kind of have to ease yourself back in to. I ended up doing 4 sets of 10 at 105 lbs and I don't think my back has ever been this sore! Anyway, here are the foods I recovered with yesterday...

Monday and Mexico

I really, really wish Arizona had a beach. After growing up 10 minutes from the ocean it is seriously painful being so far away now! I did get my fix in this weekend down in Mexico and had the best time. The weather was perfect and the resort we stayed at was beautiful- as you can imagine we didn't want to come back to the 110 degree weather, at all!

B was trying to dig his feet into the sand far enough to be as short as me. He didn't quite make it far enough haha! 


So yesterday it was back to reality and that also meant a post-work grocery store trip. We were exhausted once we got home and just crashed, so I just made what we had at home work for lunch and snacks throughout the day and then threw together this quick salad for dinner. Rotisserie chickens save the day often when we are crunched for time or I haven't prepared for the week. Just pull the skin off and then get creative with your salad- last night I kept in simple with tomato, onion, and avocado, but I often add in some grilled veggies and hard boiled eggs too. It's quick and easy, and I know we're all always looking for quick and easy!

Vlog: Cheating and Willpower

Happy Friday! I recorded this blog earlier this week to clear up what I thought may have been a little confusion on cheat meals. My bottom line: I'm allergic to a lot of foods and eating poorly makes my stomach hurt, so I don't cheat often. Cheats work for some people, and for some people they don't, you just have to find your jam!

What I Ate Wednesday

I feel like it's been so long since I've done a What I Ate Wednesday! So, some fun news- last night I learned that we are going to Rocky Point on Friday! Weee! It's supposed to be like 110 degrees in Phoenix this weekend so it will be fantastic to escape the extreme heat. Now that I know I'll be running around in a bikini there are a couple things I'll tweak in my diet to get rid of any bloat-- no greek yogurt, no protein powder (haven't been using it anyway), and lots of water! No crash dieting, no extreme measures, just small tweaks to everyday clean eats :) 



Yesterday started with some coconut pancakes topped with blueberries. I used spoonfuloffit.com recipe but left out the greek yogurt. They were definitely a different texture, but they did the trick.


Post workout was my newest favorite concoction- sweet potato, egg whites, and carob chips. So random but so good. 


Lactaid cottage cheese mixed with cinnamon, stevia, and a tiny bit of cocoa powder. Sweet treat! 


Lunch was last nights leftovers- stir fry chicken with my spicy peanut sauce. I've been meaning to put this recipe up, buuuut that hasn't happened yet. 


My afternoon snack was turkey chili over broccoli slaw and avocado. All topped off with lots of Cholula. 



And dinner was boring but did the trick- grilled chicken and zucchini.

My Epic Cheat Meal Weekend

I always take random pictures throughout the weekend and then never upload them or put them anywhere so I decided a weekly iPhone photo dump is needed :) 


Dinner on Friday night was turkey chili and it was freakin' amazing if I do say so myself. I ate mine on top of broccoli slaw which is a new favorite of mine, and topped with avocado, tomato, and red onion. 


Saturday we had our cake tasting! Bummer: I didn't get to try any cake because I didn't want to be in pain the rest of the day from the gluten/dairy. Non bummer: They are going to make the cake that we cut gluten and dairy free!! I'm so excited! I didn't think it was possible, but apparently it is!


This is how Saturday night started- with a Sinless Margarita before we left for dinner. If you haven't tried these you're totally missing out. There are only 5 calories per serving, it's all natural, and even sweetened with Stevia. All you do is add the tequila and drink :) These are true skinny margaritas, and they still taste amazing. Big thanks to Zach at Sinless for sending this over, I loved the strawberry too! 


Perfect out to eat dinner- grilled chicken and steamed veggies with no butter or oil to be found. I love it when this happens. 


And yes. That is what you think it is. A Taco Bell taco. Can I tell you the last time I had one of these? No, I can't because I literally can't remember. Let's just say we ended up having one too many drinks which led to one too many tacos. Gah. My stomach is still in pain as I write this, but I will say my muscles look fuller than ever today and I had a pretty stellar workout too. Don't worry, I will NOT be making this a regular occurrence. I think I can live another 3 years without it! 


I fueled up with these coconut pancakes from Spoonful of Fit and I will definitely be making them over and over again. SUPER fluffy and super filling. PS have you ever seen blueberries that big? They were legit the size of a quarter. So weird. 


A little post workout pump shot after doing arms and cardio yesterday. I had crazy vein action going on all day-- must have been all those taco carbs. :/
