What I Ate Wednesday- A Switch Up!

I loved hearing all your favorite cheat meals yesterday! I'm not usually a big splurger when it comes to eating 'off' foods, but I know for some people it helps keep you on track in the long run, so whatever works for you! I'm definitely back on track after the Taco Bell incident, here's what my day is currently looking like...

Can you believe it!? No egg whites, yams, and sausage! Trust me, if I could have I would have but I ended up having to send B to the store on Monday afternoon since we didn't make it over the weekend and I forgot to put yams on his list. So, I went with an old favorite- carton egg whites and oats with blueberries and almondmilk. I also threw in about a half scoop of MRM Rich Vanilla Protein Powder for some more flavor.

It was just what I needed to power me through my back day, and to be honest I might take a break from my usual breakfast because I felt like I had a lot more energy with the oats in me versus the yams. Anyway, I had a pumpkin protein shake after the gym with 1/2 a banana, PP, pumpkin, cinnamon, and Stevia.

I was starrrrving about an hour after my workout so I grabbed my morning snack a little earlier than I typically do... I just couldn't wait! Greek yogurt mixed with cinnamon, stevia, and PP and then a piece of Ezekiel toast with sugar free jelly.

Still on my buffalo chicken kick, so I had that with spinach and these awesome sweet potato tortilla chips on the side. The brand of the chips is "Way Better" and they're made with Sunflower Oil, Stone Ground Corn, Sweet Potato, Organic Quinoa, Chia Seeds and Salt. Pretty amazing huh? They also have a ton of different flavors and I've loved every one that I've tried!

Then I just had to eat the last of my black bean brownies and added some peanut butter on top, for good measure :)

A random snack of chicken, hummus, and a side salad.

And finally some chili with almond cheese for dinner. I actually browned the meat and put all the ingredients in the crock pot while I was home for lunch and just left it on low all afternoon. The flavor was so much better than when I just make it on the stove top!

Have you ever noticed making one small change in your nutrition making a big difference in the gym?

  1. I'm at the gym bright and early at 5:15 Monday-Friday. I'm constantly looking for a super quick snack to eat when I get up (at 4:45), grab my clothes, lunches, papers that I spent all night grading (hahaha...not), etc. So far the best option is a small gala or sometimes a rice cake with nut butter, then I eat my "usual" breakfast (egg whites and some form of oatmeal) after my workout... if you or anyone else has a suggestion please let me know!

    1. I'm exactly the same - I hit the gym about 5:30am, waking at 5. I tend to skip breakfast as I find eating too close to a workout makes me feel terrible. Would appreciate any v quick ideas for pre-workout breakfasts that don't sit heavy on the stomach (Kathleen I will try rice cake and nut butter)! Thank you all :)

    2. Kathleen and Samantha-- I'm in your same boat, up at 4:45 for the gym.... I always eat a combination of protein and carbs before the gym. I used to get up and 5 but found that didn't give me enough time to eat and digest so now I get up a little earlier to make sure that I am fueling my body for my workouts. Overnight oats are great because they're ready as soon as you wake up, or you could do some egg white muffins with veggies and some toast on the side. You can also do something like my apple cinnamon protein muffins- those would be ready to just pop in the microwave for 10 seconds or so just to heat up. However you make it work, I highly advise you get in a good meal to fuel your workout, I can almost guarantee you'll see more strength, energy, and results.

  2. Yes!!! I remember when I found my trainer and he got my nutrition set up the "right" way; I couldnt believe the changes I saw in a matter of weeks; and still cant sometimes :) When I am really on point- hitting my macros to a t, and getting in the right amount of cardio is when i see the best results. The more I eat lean meats and when I don't add extra fats to my meals makes a huge difference! Its hard sometimes cause the hubs loves eating red meat and pork a lot lol. The day I found individually packaged frozen tilapia at the store- talk about a saving grace! So yes I definitely notice those things :)

  3. How many egg whites are in your oatmeal? I tried it once and found it super slimy in terms of consistency. Is yours slimy?

    1. I usually cook my oats first with almondmilk (just in the microwave for 1 min 30 sec) and then I stir in the egg whites after, probably about 1/2 cup

  6. Curious... How do you weigh protein? Cooked or raw? Also, how many ounces is a serving for you? Thanks.

  8. Hi! Where is this chili recipe? I can't find it in the recipe list. Thanks!

  9. HI, odd question... Do you think you were hungry soon after your workout because the yams sustain you for longer compared to the oats raising your insulin faster or is it because of intense heavy workout.?

    Any thoughts?
