Fitness and Alcohol

I've been asked a lot lately about alcohol, so here is a quick video on what my take is!

Please keep in mind this is what works for me and of course nothing will work universally across the board, but I do believe you can indulge in alcohol every once and a while and not set yourself back. Just as with everything else, a little alcohol in moderation is not the end of the world and as long as it's not happening too often, it's not something you should beat yourself up about.

After watching the video I realized I might be a little confusing, so I just wanted to clarify. When I say I allow myself to drink on vacations, holidays, and special occasions I'm referring to more than just a glass or two of wine. This is a night out with friends, a day at the pool etc. Just thought I would clarify my definition of "drinking" versus having a "drink". Hopefully that makes sense!

  1. You are too cute! This couldn't have come at a better time. I just got to Las Vegas for a vacation, and I wouldn't want to be Sober Sally here;) I think you explained it very well, and it's a great reminder that we need balance in our lives - we can still live a little, even when trying to maintain healthy lifestyles!

  4. I completely agree with you. When I'm not training for this competition, I will treat myself with alcohol once in a while and I don't think it sets me back. I don't think you'll succeed in your goals if you try to cut out everything that you enjoy completely. If you did...you would just be unhappy!

  6. I rarely drink just because it makes my workouts the next morning rougher (even after just a glass or two of wine), however I like treating myself on special occasions too.

  8. I did exactly what you did with drinking when I first started training and losing weight. People thought I was crazy, but now, people think I look great. Still only try to do special occasions and if people ask why I am not drinking on just any Saturday night, I tell them I'd rather eat my calories! Haha, makes them back off tho. Love Vodka waters/and MicUltra! I drink so much water now in a day that when I do drink, the next day I dont even have a hangover, just very tired, but always make it to the gym or do some kind of exercise. Thanks for the post! :)

  9. Drinking is something I don't engage in too often, but I will at times... optimal times that is, not just for the heck of it. All about balance and that good stuff :)

  10. I just started to go out more, I was never really too big on it before so I tend to beat myself up over it. When I go out I usually have Vodka Soda. Is that like Vodka Water? What was the other one you mentioned for beer? And Yes! I totally understand where you are coming from with the day after drinking. You just crave bad foods. I actually went out last saturday and it completely ruined my week, coming into today. Any tips for getting back on the wagon?
