WIAW and Motivation

Now that I'm a little more than halfway through my current program, I realize that I really like being on a program and having a pre-set workout schedule. James' workouts are intense. Like, feel like you're going to puke then feel like you got ran over by a bus the next day, intense. I don't think I've pushed myself this hard in a while and I've determined it's because of the structured program. When I'm doing my own thing, I might stop at 8 reps when I could have done 10, or maybe not do a full 30 seconds of jump rope, etc. For some reason when James Wilson is telling me I have to do 3 sets of 10 reps with 15 spidermans on each side, I feel like I HAVE to do it! No option, James says. I of course know that it's all mental and I'm sure I could push myself on my own, but hey if it helps then I'll take it! Anyway, I thought I would let you all know that in case you feel like you may be lacking motivation in the gym, it might be time to jump into a program!

I started my day off with some blueberry pancakes and sugar free syrup! For those of you that follow me on Instagram, you know the recipe!

Rice cake with peanut butter and cottage cheese for snack. Surprised? :)

Open faced tuna sandwich made with greek yogurt, mustard, and topped with tomato.

Turkey zucchini burger and baby carrots dipped in red bell pepper hummus for snack.

I had planned on making a new chicken recipe for dinner but when I got home from work my chicken hadn't defrosted so I had to resort to plan B. Seasoned up some salmon with pepper and lemon juice and threw it on the grill. I had broccoli and cauliflower on the side!

Happy Wednesday!

  1. I'm so glad that you're enjoying James' program. I decided just this week that I need to start one. I'm simply getting bored, so much in fact that I no longer push myself. I was thinking about James' program since you began talking about it. I already strength train so I'm no newbie. Does he tailor each program to an individuals current needs?

I have quite a few questions about it so any insight you can provide would be extremely helpful.

  2. I love the program too! I am right there with you that it really helps to have a set list of what is going on when you get the gym, I take a few min to figure out my exact plan of attack and then go to it! I'm glad you like his program because I really think it is spot on!! And I love that you post your eats, it has helped me make up some of my own meal plans when I get bored with what I am currently eating. :)

  3. I swear, I am the EXACT same way. I was excited to do my own thing after LiveFit, but now that I am I just feel like something is missing. My husband thinks I'm crazy but I just do better on a program, I feel more commited and accountable. Can't wait to start James' program. Happy WIAW!

  4. Hey, I've been a long time lurker on your blog but figured it's time to comment! I've been working out for years on my own and I feel like I've hit a major plateau and I'm thinking of starting James's program. Are you seeing results - physically/strength wise? There are so many different programs out there but I like the fact that from what I've heard his seem to be short and effective which is what I like. I don't want to spend hours in the gym. :)

  5. AMEN!!!! LOVE Jame's Program and yes I here you on make me feel like I wanna puck. Also like you I have found that I push myself A LOT harder. It's like James is right there in the gym with you. I am lifting weight amounts I never thought possible. I think I will always love/hate plyo (ESPECIALLY burpees and pulse squats...those make me want to curse and cry all at the same time). Kristin @ My Mission Impossible you are going to LOVE the program. Maria @ Pappa Don't Preach DO James's program!!! You will not regret it. It is AWESOME!!

Btw what kind of rice cakes do you use? Also I know that we all have different macro needs but how many rice cakes do you have? Also how much cottage cheese do you use? OH and I LOVE TUNA!! I may have that sandwich today!!! YUM!!!

  7. I agree, I do a lot better she I'm following a cut out program rather than just doing whatever i feel like it. It makes me push harder.

  8. I haven't had cottage cheese in a while but you are now making me crave it! I wish I had a program because I tend to just not push myself as hard without one. Jealous of your trainer.

  10. I couldn't agree more! I'm also all about being on a program and having a set routine. For the past 5 months I've been doing a boot camp about 5 days a week and before that working out with a trainer. I wanted to try something new so decided to start Jamie Easons live fit trainer this week but wanted to pick your brain a little about it. I am nervous to give up cardio completely for Phase 1 as my goal is not only to build muscle but more to lean out. Any suggestions? I admit I may be little addicted to spin class but not doing cardio at all?!? Sounds crazy to me.

    1. I've found giving up cardio is the only way to build a good amount of muscle. You can build while doing cardio but it will be a much, much slower process. I didn't do cardio for 6 months last year, and I'll probably stop doing cardio again this winter to put on some more muscle.

  11. I thought this would be a good time to ask a question since it's WIAW. Brit, you workout in the morning right? I have been for almost 2 years. I start off with a protein (only) shake. What do you eat before your morning workouts?
