A little scared

I will be the first to admit, I pretty much wasted the last 9 months in the gym doing cardio and random other excercises that didn't really do much. It frustrates me now, because I know the only reason I was stuck upstairs on the elliptical was because the weight area was completely terrifying! I didn't know what I was doing, and there were sweaty, muscular men everywhere I turned... not exactly inviting!

There are a couple things that helped me get over my fear and hit the weights! First, knowing what you are doing before-hand is a huge help. Do some research, and come up with a game plan. Before I go to the gym I know which muscle groups I am working out, and pretty much every excercise I will be doing that day. Planning my workout strategy gave me that extra boost of confidence when walking into the lifting area. The second thing that helped was going to the gym in the morning instead of after work. Yes, it is a little hard at first to hear that 5am alarm clock, but I promise you will get used to it and it actually makes me feel better throughout the day. There are far less people at the gym in the morning, so it's a lot easier to hit the weights and machines you need, and get out without waiting around or rotating with someone. (SO annoying) If you are feeling shy, mornings are the way to go because you always see the same people and it becomes less intimidating each time. I'm way more excited to go to the gym knowing I won't be doing boring cardio the whole time!
